NBC 11 Sports: Imperial Valley Centinelas gear up to defend OFA title, more 7 on 7 football in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - After a championship run in the first season of the American Football Organization of Baja California, the Imperial Valley Centinelas are ready to run it back in 2023.

The Centinelas - made up of all athletes from the Imperial Valley have joined forces on the football field again just less than three months from the opening kickoff across the border in Mexicali.

Head coach Enrique Ruiz and company have been gathering in Calexico for several weeks in preparation for another season in a league that added another team for the upcoming campaign. After an almost dominant season in 2022, the Valley team is bringing back most of the same squad in the quest for back-to-back titles.

Meanwhile, on the prep football scene, more 7 on 7 hit Yuma on Tuesday from Cibola High School. Several Yuma schools took the skill players to the field and also took part in a "big man challenge" to top it off.

The next 7 on 7 in the area will take place at Gila Ridge on Friday night.
