NBC 11 Sports: Pro baseball on its way to San Luis, Mexico & Yuma All-Star squad cruises to quarterfinals

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - For the first time since 2019, a pro baseball league will be kicking up dirt in the desert southwest - reviving the baseball spirit into the area.

The Southern Winter League will take off in September for local and international baseball prospects in a four-team season in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico.

Plus, the 16U Yuma All-Star baseball squad stays hot with a convincing 10-0 win to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals. Juan Ayala pitched six shutout innings, boosted by an explosive 4th inning at the plate to keep their summer rolling.

And two local boxers hit the ring this weekend after training at Azteca Boxing Club in Yuma. 12-year-old Kain Anaya advanced by forfeit, while Nathan Mondejar, 15, will hit the ring on Saturday in Phoenix.
