Pregnant migrant crosses into Yuma

Marcela is seven months pregnant and crossed with her husband and three-year-old son

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Migrants from all over the world continue to cross into Yuma.

While most migrants cross the border at night, some still make their way into the U.S. in the daytime heat.

Marcela Rena is from Colombia, and also is seven months pregnant.

She crossed over with her husband and three-year-old son, and says one day they hope to be able to go back to their home country.

“The hope is to do something better so that when we go back to our country we can have somewhere for them to live," Rena said. "The economy is really bad in our country so we came here for them. We took many risks.”

According to Yuma Chief Patrol Officer Chris Clem, from August 21st to 27th, Yuma agents apprehended over 5,800 migrants at the border.
