Local event supports field workers

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Comite Civico Del Valle (CCDV) and UC Davis host an event to help give support to field workers.

It was a whole day dedicated to field workers.

The event was hosted by the non-profit organization Comite Civico Del Valle and the University of California Irvine through a safe program.

The event provided information by state agencies such as mental health information and labor rights.

The food also was provided by Calexico High School culinary arts students.

The director of health programs of CCDV says fieldworkers need to be aware of their rights and there is still a lot to do for them.

“They deceive this education... there is a lack of education and transparency among our farm workers. They have been neglected for so many years... I see it as an asthma educator... as a farmworker educator for 20 years in Imperial County,” said Esther Bejarano, Director of Health Programs at CCDV.

The organization says there will be more projects in the future.
