Southwest High School orchestra prepares for a big concert - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Students at Southwest High School (SHS) are getting ready for the biggest concert in Imperial County.

The SHS orchestra and musicians from San Diego will be performing together on March 19.

Matthew Busse is the conductor of the Imperial Valley Symphony and teaches at SHS.

Dante Villegas is a senior at SHS, he plays the viola and says this is an exciting concert he has been preparing for a long time.

"We are going to have a concert for the Imperial Valley Symphony and we are going to play a couple of different pieces that are exciting with full orchestrations," he said.

Busse says this is a phenomenal event that will bring joy to many since it includes diversity.

"This one is a little bit different because we are getting such a huge brass and wind section," he said.

News 11's Wiley Jawhary will have the full story on the Evening Edition at 6 p.m. MST.
