Trial for one of the suspects involved in the house party shooting set for this week
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - One of the suspects involved in a house party shooting that killed two people in May of 2023 will have their trial begin with opening statements expected on Thursday.
20-year-old Jose Lopez is facing two counts of first degree murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He is accused of being involved in a house party shooting that resulted in the deaths of 19-year-old Danny Garcia and 20-year-old Ande Blackthunder.
Lopez rejected a plea offer from the state last February that would have put him behind bars for 40 years.
According to his Defense Attorney, Richard Parks, jury selection is now underway for his trial, which is expected to last three weeks.
Opening statements are expected to begin Thursday afternoon.
