July marks six months since L.A. wildfires

LOS ANGELES (KYMA, KECY/NBC) - Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is holding a press conference Monday.

According to a press release obtained by NBC News, this is to recognize the six months since the L.A. wildfires.

Governor Newsom is said to also recognize the "progress made and steps being taken to rebuild and restore the communities affected" by the wildfires.

The Palisades Fire broke out January 7, with the Eaton and Hurst Fires breaking out soon after.

While the Hurst Fire was 100% contained on January 15, according to Cal Fire, the Palisades and Eaton Fires were 100% contained in early February.

Later that month, state and federal officials announced they were "rapidly advancing wildfire cleanup efforts" with debris removal in the Los Angeles area.
