Road Report: Expect closures, restrictions, delays on I-8
Part of district-wide preservation project
PHONEIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports a recent $36 million allocation for multiple pavement preservation projects on highways across the state are set to begin in November 2021.
Beginning July 1 and ending on June 30, 2022, work has rotated and the Southwest District has just over 150 lane miles scheduled for crack filling. ADOT says Interstate 8 (I-8) preservation between mileposts 115 and 134.6 will be directly affected.

As of now, ADOT officials can't confirm an exact schedule. They've only said drivers should "expect to see crews at work in different parts of the state during different times of the year based on outside air temperatures and other weather conditions."
What to Expect:
- Lane restrictions or closures that impact travel could occur.
- Drivers should expect lane and ramp restrictions or closures and plan for possible delays.
- Drivers should slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment.
The Department found it necessary to alert the public ahead of time since I-8 is so frequently traveled. It will provide estimated construction dates about project schedules and potential impacts as schedules are confirmed.
