Lawsuit filed to restore Arizona abortion access
Arizona providers had to halt abortion services due to the new abortion ban
TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - According to American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, an Arizona physician and the Arizona Medical Association filed a lawsuit in state court asking to allow abortion services in Arizona.
The lawsuit asks the court to allow abortion care to resume through 15 weeks of pregnancy.
The 150-year old abortion law that took effect does not have exceptions such as rape, incest or threats to a pregnant person's health.
Another separate abortion law was signed into law in March 2022 by Governor Ducey that bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy and has also took effect.
Abortion providers say they are confused on the clarity of the new law and which state laws govern the provision of abortion care in Arizona as there are many other conflicting abortion laws.
