Law enforcement appreciation week

May 9-15 is National Police Week a time where citizens thank the men and women sworn to protect them

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's a call that very few answer, a life dedicated to the protection of others. It takes humility and apathy to bear the shield of a peace officer.

Each and every day men and women across the country face the day hoping to make their communities better. Simple acts, like redirecting a hazardous driver may save a life down the road.

So, during the week of May 9-15 Americans thank those citizens who have taken an oath to serve and protect. Across the country communities hold ceremonies remembering those who paid the ultimate price.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
