SLPD report “rollercoaster” year for arrests of minors caught with fentanyl pills
On Wednesday, the San Luis Police Department ( SLPD ) arrested a female juvenile for the possession of almost $3,000 worth of fentanyl pills.
It was an officer working an operation Stone Garden who took the young girl into custody Wednesday morning.
According to SLPD , two days before her arrest, the minor was initially caught with just one of the pills that have an M-30 marking on it.
Ultimately, through further investigation, a total of 193-pills were found in her possession.
SLPD said the case is now closed, and the minor is being charged with possession of fentanyl.
However, that doesn’t eliminate the possibility of further investigation to figure out the supplier.
SLPD described this year as a rollercoaster.
The summer months were pretty quiet with only a few juvenile arrests for possession of M-30 pills, in comparison to the beginning of the year when authorities say San Luis kids were constantly being arrested.
Lieutenant Marco Santana said, ” Some [kids] are selling [the M-30 pills] and some are using it. I guess it all depends because some of them are focused on making easy money. We encourage the parents to make sure that they’re actively communicating with their sons and daughters to make sure that they’re doing the right thing. ”
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, clandestinely-produced fentanyl is primarily manufactured in Mexico; which is why SLPD does not doubt that the fentanyl pills that are getting into the hands of minors are coming from south of the border.
