Senior Companion Program recruiting volunteers in desert southwest

For the growing elderly population in Yuma, it becomes more and more difficult to stay healthy and active— especially if they’re homebound.

The Senior Corps, in partnership with the Western Arizona Council of Governments and NAU’s Civic Service Institute, is bringing the nationally recognized Senior Companion Program to Yuma. The program aims to increase senior happiness and independence.

Volunteers are not to be mistaken for caregivers, as they only offer non-medical assistance to older adults.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the program:

No formal experience is needed, just interest You must be 55 years or older You must undergo 20 hours of training Dedicate at least 10 hours a week to program
