135 Central Americans surrender to Border Patrol agents near Lukeville

A group of 135 Central Americans suspected of illegally entering the United States west of Lukeville surrendered to Border Patrol Monday morning.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the group of Central Americans was found by Ajo Station agents. The group had spread out before illegally entering in multiple locations throughout the same remote stretch of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument west of the Port of Lukeville.

The group consisted of mostly family units, all who surrendered in the same area as previous large groups, CBP officials said. Two Border Patrol checkpoints on State Route 85 were temporarily closed to transport and ensure the safety of the families due to the hot temperatures Monday.
