Child sex offender arrested after illegally crossing with Central American families
Agents at Yuma Sector arrested a child sex offender late Friday night near San Luis, Ariz., after he illegally crossed into the United States with 23 other individuals.
CBP said at around 11:55 p.m. last Friday, a Border Patrol camera operator observed 24 subjects illegally crossing into the United States three miles east of the San Luis, Arizona Port of Entry.
CBP said agents responded and the group immediately surrendered to them.
All of the individuals were arrested and most of them were family units from Central America.
During processing, CBP said agents identified one of the individuals as a previously deported 37-year-old, Marcos Velasquez-Taperio.
CBP said records showed he had a felony conviction for Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Minor in 2009, in Ford County, Kansas.
Velasquez was sentenced to 32 months in prison for that crime and was deported back to Guatemala.
CBP said he is now being prosecuted for re-entry after deportation
