Yuma’s Cancer Resource Center celebrates ten years of service
It’s sometimes the “littlest things” that make a big difference.
For ten years, the Yuma Cancer Resource Center has been helping those fighting cancer in a different way. “We have wigs, we have prosthetics, we have nutrition, gas certificates, pillows that you can put on your arm if you had surgery.” It’s some of the few items that Chris Jones says cancer patients receive for free. “The center offers gifts to patients that are in cancer treatment, and it’s difficult to go through that treatment whether you have infusion or radiation.” The nonprofit facility is ran by volunteers, some of which are cancer survivors. Judy says she started helping the center once she finished battling breast cancer. Judy says,”To be able to help them through this journey, not necessarily the treatment itself as far as the medical, but the physical and the mental to be able to help them through this.I have gone through this so I thought I would be able to help.” This Thursday the Yuma Cancer Resource Center will be holding a special ceremony from 4-6PM on the second floor to honor volunteers, donors, and the community for their support.
