Man arrested after fleeing fatal rollover accident

A man was arrested after he fled from a fatal car accident.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers say Leonardo Ortega, 23, was driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla when he rear-ended Jose Arrechea, 67, who was driving a 2006 Ford pick-up truck.

The crash caused both, Ortega and Arrechea, to lose control and roll their cars over. Arrechea’s passenger, a 49-year-old woman, was ejected from the truck and suffer fatal injuries.

The woman’s name is being withheld by CHP.

The incident happened on Highway 111 north of Keystone Road at 5:20 a.m. Saturday.

Officers say Ortega fled the scene on foot but was later found and arrested.

Arrechea suffered major injuries, while Ortega only suffered minor injuries.
