Quechan Tribe President resigns on new council’s first day in office
The newly sworn-in Quechan Council and its tribe members were met with surprise Monday morning as they received news that President Mike Jackson resigned from his position. The news came on the Council’s first full day in office.
According to the Quechan Constitution, Quechan Council must immediately assemble to fill a vacant position by selecting from an eligible list of candidates from the previous election. Jackson’s position was filled hours later by runner-up and former President Keeny Escalanti.
