CPOA helps family in need

A Calexico family lost a loved one and the Calexico Police Officers Association jumped in to help with the funeral expenses.

Calexico Police Sgt. Victor Legaspi said two small kids lost their mother recently due to a serious ailment. Several thousand dollars were raised by the CPOA and other local businesses to help the family. The two kids are now living with a family member. The local Walmart provided clothing and some needed furniture.

“We discovered that the children they sleep in the living room. Someone had said that they live at a shack. So that’s one thing that was heart wrenching. So, we felt that we needed to do something for our community especially for these two children,” Legaspi said.

The family who received the help say they would like to remain anonymous because of their loss and their pain.
