Calexico homeless get free haircuts and Thanksgiving dinner
Jose Parra with Bulldogs Barber Shop says a good haircut can go a long way in making somebody feel good about themselves.
“Being happy within and looking good so to impress the other people is something that is always a good thing for us. That self-being. Just giving a good output and looking well and feeling good is always good,” Parra said.
Parra and other local groups, stores and organizations teamed up with Calexico Brown Bag Coalition to give the homeless what they call the works.
ROP volunteer Sandy Sierra said that includes a shower, a haircut, and then a Thanksgiving dinner with games and prizes for everyone at Calexico Women’s Improvement Club.
“Well, just to give back. It’s Thanksgiving and everyone deserves to have something of their own,” Sierra said.
Volunteer Ruben Nieblas said everyone deserves to feel special in these holidays.
“I’ve known people that have gone through these situations and i feel for what they would need specially in times like these throughout the holidays. No one wants to be left out in the holidays,” Nieblas said.
This is the second annual Thanksgiving dinner organized by the Calexico Brown Bag Coalition. They expect over 200 homeless people and other guests tonight.
