Calexico man said his identity stolen

Calexico police said a local man received an email from a credit agency demanding payment from an alleged delinquent account from a gas company.

The man told police that it was not his account. Somebody had allegedly used his identity illegally.

Police said victims of this type of crime should be prepared with the proper personal documents when making a police report.

“All we request is for them to come prepared as far as we’re going to ask for statements from the accounts of the credit report, a copy of their credit report, so we can go through it with them, and see what accounts are there and which ones aren’t,” Calexico Police officer Marco Mardueno said.

Police said victims of this crime must also report it to the credit bureau.
