I-8 Dogwood over crossing opens
The I-8 Dogwood Road over crossing is completely open as of Tuesday morning.
The newly reconfigured intersection was widened from two to six lanes including two turning lanes. It also has wider exit ramps and new signals to reduce traffic jams near the Imperial Valley Mall, according to Cal-Trans officials.
The $28.1 million project broke ground in October 2014.
Cal-Trans officials say crews will finish installing lighting and decorative fencing in the next few weeks.
The bridge will also get new state-of-the-art advanced variable messages signs which will be the first in the state to be installed. The signs will be able to notify drivers of any traffic accidents, weather advisories, construction activity including closures and detours.
Landscaping is scheduled to begin in December.
