County continues counting ballots
It’s been almost two weeks since the general election. However, the Registrar of Voter’s Office continues counting ballots.
According to the Election’s Department there are plenty of mail-in ballots that need to be counted, as well as damaged and provisional ballots. Officials say, although it’s taking longer than expected, this kind of wait is normal since they are dealing with a presidential election and the ballot had more races and measures than normal.
Deborah porter says more than 5,000 provisional ballots need to be counted, possibly changing some of the local results.
“We will go back and check some of the things that we have challenged to make sure that the challenge stands or we might release the challenge. So there will be a few more that will be added in the one that we have been watching is IID 4. There are enough ballots out there to still cause a change,” said Registrar of Voter’s Deborah Porter.
Porter says there is a significant increase in voter turnout as well as registration. Those numbers will also be provided once the official final results are in.
