New bill would require reporting of cyber attacks

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Lawmakers are working on legislation that calls for various public and private entities to notify the government within a day of a cyber-attack.

The bipartisan bill is being led by Senators Mark Warner, Marco Rubio and Susan Collins.

Right now, there is no single federal standard for breach notifications, which critics say is leaving the United States vulnerable to hackers.

The legislation is expected to apply to US government agencies and federal contractors. It also includes liability protections for those who submit reports.
