Abandoned building raided by Calexico police
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Police Department raided an abandoned house where they said they found several homeless people along with drugs inside.
Officers said they saw two men walking in and out of the vacant house.
As police tried to talk to them, they ran away and that was only the beginning.
Police said they see at least four cases per week of homeless people breaking into homes and doing drugs.
In this latest incident, four more suspects, three men, and one woman were all questioned.
"While they were detained... they went inside the vacant residents and located what suspected to be fentanyl pills... they brought it back to the station and end up being 4.3 ounces of fentanyl pills," said Sgt. Manuel Ceja.
Police say one of the suspects was actually shot in a separate incident but didn't want to answer any questions.
Officers said this is not the first time homeless people break into empty homes.
"Some of these homeless are breaking into these homes and when they are inside, they are conducting either drug sales... drinking alcohol... causing a disturbance of some sort," said Sgt. Manuel Ceja.
An owner of a business who wishes not to show their face for safety said they see homeless consuming drugs around the area.
“In front of the office I see a lot of homeless people pass by and they go to the house behind me... we knew the owner but he sold it and now we don’t know who owns it," said a Calexico resident.
