New Yuma county recorder sworn in

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - With just two weeks away from the Arizona Primary, the new Yuma County Recorder, Richard Colwell, was sworn into office this morning at the Yuma County Board of Supervisors meeting.

After recently being unanimously selected by the board of supervisors to finish Robyn Stallworth Pouquette’s term as County Recorder, Richard Colwell is now officially on the job. 

Colwell was sworn in by Superior Court Judge Mark Reeves.

He says he is excited to take on this new role.

“It’s exciting, but the reality of it has sunk in now. Now I have work to do. I have to go down to the office, meet the people who I got to meet briefly last week and then load in and learn the ropes,” said Colwell.

Colwell’s daughters say they are very proud of their dad coming out of retirement into this huge role in the Yuma Community.

“We’re happy for him that he’s coming out of retirement to serve the community again. He was a police officer for several years and after that he worked as the director for AWC police academy and retired from those two and now he’s back to serving the community," said the Colwell sisters.

Colwell will serve as County Recorder until December 2024, when he will have to decide whether he wants to run for the seat again. 

With the Arizona Primaries quickly approaching, Colwell says he is looking forward to on the job learning. 

“It’s going to be a learning experience for me, but again when you have good people in there doing the right things, it’s reassuring as the manager to know that okay it’s gonna be a good fair election,” said Colwell.

Keep in mind early voting is currently underway, and you can drop off your ballot at any drop box within the county, or visit a voting location on August 2.
