CDC releases new numbers on measles outbreak

According to the latest report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the total number of cases of the measles has jumped to 704 in the United States and that number is expected to rise.

“Unfortunately right now, we are breaking records for the measles in us and it’s a stark reminder just how important vaccines can be”, says Dr. Anne Schuchat, Deputy Director for the CDC.

The number of measles cases in the United States has hit a 25-year record.

The centers for disease control and prevention says there are 704 measles cases across the U.S.

“They’re occurring in close-knit communities that have low coverage of immunization.”

The new numbers come just days after the CDC confirmed that the U.S. reached the highest number of measles cases in a year since it was declared eliminated back in 2000…

But in recent years, more and more people are opting out of the vaccine because of what officials say is because of misinformation.

“There are some groups around the country you might call them anti-vaccine groups that are targeting misinformation to different communities, this think this is a terrible thing and hope that parents will have access to accurate science-based information.”

The CDC says 71 percent of the confirmed cases are patients who were not vaccinated, and one of the concerns these “anti-vaxers” have is worries it might lead to the patient having autism.

The problem doesn’t stop in the u-s, this has become a global epidemic affecting millions.

“Measles is still circulating widely in many parts of the world we think there are about 7 million cases of measles around the world each year ”

The CDC says the MMR vaccine is very safe and effective.
