5,200 troops to be deployed to southern border
5,200 troops will be deployed to U.S.-Mexico border by the end of this week.
The Pentagon has responded to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s request for assistance ahead to the migrant caravan traveling through southern Mexico with the goal of reaching the United States.
They are calling this Operation Faithful Patriot. The 5,200 troops are in addition to the 2,092 National Guard troops that were sent to the southern border in April.
Troops, including active duty and National Guard, will first reach Texas, then Arizona, and finally arrive in California, according to the Department of Defense.
Troops that will be deployed to the 26 ports of entry along the southern border will be strengthening the surrounding areas.
The Pentagon has no specifics on how many troops will be arriving in the Yuma and El Centro sectors.
