Hotel fire breaks out with guests still inside

Directly across defunct Greyhound Bus Station

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A fire broke out at the Roberta Hotel on State Street Saturday morning at approximately 7.

El Centro Fire Department (ECFD) were the first on the scene, and able to suppress the fire without sustaining any injuries or inducing death.

According to the El Centro Firefighters Association, ECFD arrived after reports of flames and smoke coming from the hotel were received. Guests were allegedly inside when the fire developed.

ECFD has not released an official statement on the fire.

The alleged owner was visible carrying construction supplies from his car into the hotel. Presumably, damages were minor enough for him to repair without the City of El Centro mandating it be completely renovated like the Mayan Hotel.
