Uber to establish fund for sexually harassed employees

Settlement ends nearly two-year long investigation

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - A federal commission says Uber Technologies, Inc. will establish a $4.4-million fund for employees who experience sexual harassment while working at the ride-hailing company.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission began investigating Uber in 2017 after a former engineer detailed the harassment she experienced in a widely-shared blog post.

The commission said Wednesday it fond reasonable cause to blieve the company "permitted a culture of sexual harassment and retaliation against individuals who complained about such harrassment."

Earlier this month Uber revealed it received reports of more than 3,000 sexual assaults during rides in its contractors' vehicles in 2018.
