Fire in Yuma intentionally set according to YFD

Firefighters believe a blaze in Yuma was intentionally set. The Yuma Fire Department said on Wednesday shortly after 2 a.m. firefighters responded to the 1000 Block of the Thacker Ditch (west of Avenue B).

First arriving YFD personnel said they found several trees and underbrush on fire; an area roughly 200 feet by 15 feet. The fire was growing and beginning to spread to other trees and threatening a nearby residence.

Firefighters were able to gain access to the burning area from 10th Place and Palomino Avenue. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished before it could spread further.

YFD said this was the second fire in this area in the last week. Fire investigators called to the scene determined this fire to be intentionally set.
