A new tanning bed law may be passed in Arizona

Arizona may be getting a new law that would prohibit those under the age of 18 to be able to use tanning beds in salons. HB 2194 would prohibit minors under the age of 18 from using an indoor UV tanning facility. This bill was approved on a 39 to 19 vote on February 9th 2017. House bill 2194 now goes to the senate for further consideration. While owners of several tanning salons around Yuma wouldn’t talk, here is what people on the streets had to say about minors using tanning beds. “I think it’s pretty dangerous, cause of the UV, exposure, the possibility of getting cancer and their young you know.” “I think its wrong because anything that is not natural, throws the body out of balance.” The center for disease control and prevention say that tanning at a young age greatly increases your risk for skin cancer. A 2015 youth survey showed that 7 percent of all high school students male and female used tanning beds and 16 percent of females in the 12th grade acknowledged using tanning facilities.
