Community participates in Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course
Yuma residents saw more military aircraft flying through the sky than usual on Friday. The Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course returned to Yuma for the second time in 2016 on October 12.
The military conducts WTI twice a year, showcasing various military aircraft landing in areas within the community. The training allows WTI students an opportunity to train in a simulated real-world experience.
The training is not just a learning opportunity for WTI students, but it allows the community to learn what the training is all about as well.
“We want the local community to know what we’re all about ,” explains MAWTS-1 Commanding Officer Colonel James Wellons. “To do this type of thing inside an actual community is realistic. It gives us exposure to the risks and circumstances we would face and the complexities we would face if we did this in the real world. That’s much better for us than just going out in the desert and doing it in a mock-up town.”
The Weapons and Training Instructor Course will return to Yuma Spring 2017.
