PMHD hosts “Tackle Breast Cancer” event

The radiology department at Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District held an event today to bring awareness to breast cancer.

This year’s theme “Tackle Breast Cancer,” offered information from various local resources and people were able to make appointments for mammograms right on the spot.

“Resources available if women become diagnosed with breast cancer are, “Between Women,” Cancer Research of the Desert, Vantage Oncology, American Cancer Society is also the Pioneers Health Clinic,” said Patricia Enders, Mammography Technician.

All organizations present at the event have a specific focus, whether it is with support groups or fittings for wigs and prosthetics.

“250,000 women in the united states every year are diagnosed with some form of it as well as 2,500 men. It’s a very prevalent disease in this county and the biggest way to slow the tide of people passing away from the disease is to detect it early.” Said Joel Birdsong, Radiology Education Coordinator.

“we have onsite scheduling for mammograms, anyone 40 and older can actually schedule their own mammogram and they don’t require an actually doctors order for a screening mammogram,” explained Enders.

People in attendance were also treated with refreshments and were also able to participate in a raffle. If you were not able to make it out today but would like to schedule a mammogram, the hospital will schedule appointments by phone or online.

The radiology department also informed our news team that there is financial assistance and payment programs for people in need of mammograms, for more information you can visit www.pmhd.org/our-services/radiology/
