CBS 13 Sports: Six local flag football programs in action Thursday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The opening season of girls flag football in Arizona continues, with plenty of action Thursday night across the region.

Gila Ridge picked up its fourth straight win, shutting out Yuma Catholic 21-0 to improve to 4-1, while the Criminals fall to 3-2.

Somerton also earned its second win of the season, defeating Kofa 9-0 at Irv Pallack Field. The Toros improve to 2-2, while the Kings remain winless at 0-5.

Vincent Memorial continued its winning streak with a dominant 44-0 shutout over San Luis. The Scots have now won three straight, while the Sidewinders are still searching for their first victory.

Switching over to boys football, Brawley is finding its stride at the right time, picking up its third straight win with a 28-0 road victory over Linfield Christian.

The Wildcats started the season 0-4 but have now surpassed last year's win total and will return from their bye week to face Holtville on October 16.

Jumping to Major League Baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks are bringing back longtime manager Torey Lovullo on a two-year deal.

Lovullo, the winningest manager in franchise history with 750 victories, guided Arizona to the World Series in 2023 and will now look to lead the team back to the postseason after three straight seasons without a playoff appearance.
