Man arrested and charged in connection with missing woman found dead in San Luis, Mexico

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - A man is now facing femicide and other charges in connection to a missing woman who was found dead in San Luis, Mexico.

Mario Alberto "N" was arrested in Mexicali after investigators from Sonora and Baja California gathered evidence linking him to the kidnapping and death of 25-year-old Wendy Estéfani Zepeda Alfaro.

The man had a sentimental relationship with Alfaro, who was reported missing late last month, and was found dead more than a week later.

Baja California's prosecutors said a blood stain was found during a search at the suspect's home, which tested positive for Alfaro's DNA.

The suspect was charged with aggravated femicide, kidnapping resulting in death, and domestic violence.

"According to the investigation, they were in San Luis Río Colorado, at the residence where they had an argument, and this person stated that he had left, however, that was not the case. He took her life," said Maria Elana Andrade Ramirez, General Prosecutor of Baja California.

If found guilty, the suspect faces a prison sentence of 45 to 70 years.
