NBC 11 Sports: Local 11-year-old boxer captures National Junior Olympic gold

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - 11-year-old Francisco Perez made Yuma boxing history by winning the 154-pound division at the National Junior Olympic Championships in Wichita, Kansas. Perez became the first boxer from Yuma to bring home a Junior Olympic national title, accomplishing the feat just three years after he began boxing at the age of eight.

Perez was one of three Yuma athletes to qualify for the event, joining Skyler and Liam Bialecki. Skyler is a two-time national silver medalist, while Liam has earned a national bronze medal, further showcasing the rising talent coming out of Yuma's boxing community. Perez says his next goal is to win another national championship and eventually become a professional boxer.

In Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Sunday at Petco Park to win their three-game rivalry series. Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts helped power the Dodgers offensively, while Manny Machado homered and Xander Bogaerts drove in a run for San Diego. The two National League West rivals will meet again Thursday in Los Angeles.

In the NBA, the Phoenix Suns acquired forward Miles Bridges from the Charlotte Hornets ahead of free agency. Bridges heads to Phoenix after spending the first seven seasons of his career in Charlotte, where he became the franchise's longest-tenured player. The Suns sent Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and a 2033 first-round pick to the Hornets as part of the deal.

The trade gives Phoenix an experienced starting-caliber forward and added roster flexibility heading into free agency, while Charlotte adds veteran depth as it continues to reshape its roster.
