NBC 11 Sportscast: Gila Ridge High School hires new Girls Head Volleyball Coach, Nike RBI D-backs win nail-biter
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Gila Ridge hired Maris Grasis as the new head coach for the Girls Volleyball team.
The Hawks look to improve after an 8-9 season, but Grasis wants to do more than just turn that record around.
"Expectations are going to be high," Grasis said. "I might as well start out high, and as we go along we can change the goals from there, but right now, I want us to get to at least the play in game where we're one of the top 24 teams in the state."
Gila Ridge's first game of the season won't be an easy one though, as they face a tough Brawley Union Program.
On the diamond, Arizona sealed an 8-7 win in a close contest against Detroit in the RBI World Series Tournament in Vero Beach, Florida.
The Diamondbacks led by as much as five, but the Tigers crawled back, eventually tying the game. Later in the game, with a man in scoring position, Arizona hit a ball down the third base line driving the run in.
The game wouldn't go the typical six innings as the time limit for play was reached. Had their been more game time, the outcome of the game could've been different.
The Diamondbacks will face Patterson Tuesday, August 5.
