Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” movie premieres in theaters

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Alec Baldwin's "Rust" has finally been released in theaters three-and-a-half years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on set.

The film's production was marred by the on-set tragedy when a live round was fired from a gun being held by Baldwin during rehearsal in October of 2021.

Hutchins was killed while director Joel Souza was injured in the accidental shooting.

An investigation by Santa Fe authorities led to Baldwin being charged with manslaughter, but a judge dismissed the case in July of last year.

The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted of manslaughter following the incident.

On Friday, "Rust" was released in select theaters nationwide as well as on-demand. Proceeds from the film will go to Hutchins' family.
