FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Dry week ahead for the Desert Southwest

With the area past Tropical Storm Kay, a break from the rain could be on the way

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The extratropical remnants of Kay have finally been dislodged now with a more elongated troughing appearance as the system shears east in stronger westerly flow approaching the SW Conus. On its eastern periphery, a 30kt southerly jet has materialized with very favorable
divergent flow aloft in the front exit region. Within the western cyclonic region of the jet core, WV imagery reveals several smaller embedded vorticity centers poised to translate into south-central
Arizona with the passage of the wave. Juxtaposed with this dynamic setup, instability was being reloaded on the heels of a stronger than the normal monsoon flow; frequently during the monsoon, it is difficult to achieve consecutive active storm days, but not today.
