CBS 13 Sports: Rocks crumble is state quarterfinals

The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks fall to Fountain Hills in the state 3A baseball quarterfinals

GOODYEAR, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - After a dazzling opening round win in the state 3A baseball playoffs on Saturday, the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks traveled to Goodyear on Tuesday for a quarterfinal matchup against the Falcons if Fountain Hills. The Shamrocks, the number three seed in class 3A, entered the contest on a nine game win streak including an opening round win at home over Winslow 9-2. Fountain Hills is an 11 seed and knocked off 6 seed Gilbert Christian 10-3. The Falcons entered the quarterfinals on a four game winning streak and made it five in a row Tuesday night, downing the Shamrocks 6-3. The Falcons pitching has come on strong over the past three days and held firm once again against Yuma Catholic. Fountain Hills next will face #2 seed Odyssey Institute on Thursday at Diablo Stadium in the state semi-finals.
