NBC 11 Sports: Yuma City FC begins new chapter with UPSL debut

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma City FC made history this weekend, taking the field for the first time in United Premier Soccer League play at Desert Sun Stadium.

The club hosted its inaugural match in front of a strong home crowd, marking a major milestone for semi-professional soccer in Yuma.

For owner and player Blas Gasca, the moment was the result of months of work and sacrifices from everyone involved with the club.

Gasca said seeing the community come out to support the team made the historic night even more meaningful.

Captain and midfielder Alexis Aguirrebarrena said the team was proud to represent Yuma and Arizona while showcasing how much the club has grown since its beginnings.

Yuma City FC now looks to build on its inaugural match and establish a lasting semi-pro soccer culture in the community.

City FC will return to action Sunday, September 27, when it travels to Scottsdale to take on Kings FC at 4:30 p.m.
