NBC 11 Sports: Gila Ridge flies by Kofa

Gila Ridge is all smiles with a straight set win over Kofa. Antelope stays undefeated with sweep of San Pasqual

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Gila Ridge Hawks volleyball team notched their second win of the season by sweeping past the Kofa Lady Kings on Thursday night. The Hawks won in straight sets at home 25-15, 25-8 and 25-16, snapping a two game losing streak.

"We really needed this win to bring the energy up," Hawks head coach Tracey Lee-North said. "After back to back tough games we needed this energy to take into the weekend."

Gila Ridge will travel to Lake Havasu this weekend for the Mary Jo Goldey Tournament. Junior Jayce Ducharme was the standout player for the Hawks with 15 points off of serves.

For Kofa, the Lady Kings dropped their fourth straight match and are 1-4 on the season.

"We were definitely outplayed tonight," Kings head coach Tim Morrison said.

Morrison also mentioned the play of Olivia Taylor and Dyannah Torres on defense for the Lady Kings.

Kofa will also head to Lake Havasu this weekend.

On the other side of Telegraph pass the Antelope Rams volleyball team stayed undefeated to start the season with a straight set win at home over San Pasqual on Thursday night 25-17, 25-10 and 25-18.

Marissa Carillo was the Rams top server on the night. In the second set alone she put the first 8 points on the board for Antelope, setting the Rams up for a very good start. Jocelyn Guillen had 9 kills for the Rams. Antelope improves to 4-0 on the season and next travel to Salmone on Tuesday, September 13th.
