New details on Cain Velasquez shooting

Former UFC champion fired seven rounds into a vehicle injuring one person

SAN JOSE, Calif. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez remains in a Santa Clara jail held without bond. On Wednesday, Velasquez was charged with attempted murder and multiple other gun assault charges.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office says Velasquez fired at least seven rounds into a truck and injuring one person. The person hit was not the intended target of Velasquez.

The shooting took place on Monday afternoon after what is being described as an 11-mile, high-speed chase by Velasquez in South San Jose and Morgan Hill.

The alleged target of Velasquez is Harry Goularte Jr. a passenger inside the truck Velasquez was said to be targeting. Prosecutors have accused Goularte Jr. of molesting Velasquez's four-year-old relative at a family daycare center in San Martin.

Velasquez made his first court appearance on Wednesday and his arraignment was postponed until Monday. He will remain in jail until a bail hearing that is also set for Monday.
