Knicks end 53-year championship drought with historic NBA Finals run

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the first time in 53 years, capping off one of the most dominant postseason runs in league history.

The Knicks finished the playoffs with a 16-3 record and won 13 consecutive postseason games before falling in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The streak ranks as the second-longest playoff winning streak in NBA history, trailing only the 2017 Golden State Warriors.

The championship series itself delivered several historic moments. In Game 4, the Knicks completed the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, rallying from a 29-point deficit to secure a pivotal victory and take control of the series.

Jalen Brunson also etched his name into the record books during the Finals. In Saturday's championship-clinching victory, Brunson scored 45 points, tying Michael Jordan for the most points ever scored on the road in a Finals-clinching game.

The title marks New York's first NBA championship since 1973 and ends a drought that spanned more than five decades. After years of rebuilding and postseason heartbreak, the franchise finally returned to the top of the basketball world.

From a 53-year title drought to an unforgettable championship run, the Knicks have once again brought the Larry O'Brien Trophy back to New York City.
