Rams softball splits and advances

Antelope clinches a spot in the 1A state playoffs

WELLTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Antelope Rams softball needed at least a split in their season doubleheader finale at home on Wednesday to clinch a spot in the Arizona Interscholastic Association 1A State Tournament.

After losing game 1 to Anthem Prep in the final inning, due to a number of fielding errors; the prospects were not looking promising going into game 2.

But, starting pitcher Marissa Carrillo would make enough plays to push the Rams to a 9-5 win in game 2.

Carrillo would put in a complete game performance in the victory.

On the offensive side, Yareli Manriquez had a solid outing, going 3-3 with a triple and 3 RBI's.

The doubleheader split propels the Rams into the 1A playoffs as a 15th seed.

They'll play a 1st round road game against 2nd seeded Superior Junior/Senior High on Wednesday, May 4th.
