High prep baseball honors

8 Gila Ridge Hawks make postseason waves

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Gila Ridge baseball is taking home a number of individual accolades.

As the Hawks baseball program goes into it's offseason, 8 of it's players are being recognized by the 5A Northwest Region.

Both Blake Avila and Nate Hoskins made the cut for the All-Region 1st Team, both having high enough batting averages to result about 1 hit out of every 2 at bats.

Meanwhile, Jack Scanlan and Alex Guerra are receiving 2nd team honors.

Guerra was 5-2 overall as Ridge's starting pitcher with an impressive 1.96 ERA.

Rounding out the rest of the Hawks honorees is Leo Magallanes, Keaton Young, Dale Tshigg and Aiden Schmidgall.

Schmidgall's future with Gila Ridge baseball appears to be bright, as the Sophomore had a 4-0 starting record as a pitcher with an astounding ERA of 1.02.

Seniors Blake Avila and Andrue Jiminez will also be playing in this year's Arizona Baseball Coaches Association 5A Conference All-Star Game on May 30th.

Kofa's Mario Perez will be participating in the 6A edition of the AZBCA All-Star Game, also on Memorial Day Weekend.
