Illinois mother facing murder charges after allegedly killing her 2-year-old son

FRANKFORT, Ill. (NBC, KYMA) - An Illinois mother is facing murder charges after allegedly killing her 2-year-old son inside their Frankfort home earlier this week.

Authorities say Corey Walsh was found inside her home Tuesday afternoon as police discovered her 2-year-old child unresponsive.

The child later died at an area hospital, and Walsh was transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries after attempting to harm herself.

Walsh has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and was taken into custody to be held for medical treatment.

Citing witnesses, prosecutors say Walsh had recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

According to court documents, Walsh "Had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends."

Walsh's attorney released the following statement on Friday evening writing in part, "This is a tragedy, for the Walsh family all of whom are mourning the loss of this child. It is also a tragedy in that Corey herself was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time this happened."
