Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband sits down for exclusive interview with ’60 Minutes’

NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband Patrick Clancy sat down for an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes, where he discussed his unbearable grief after losing his three children.

It's his first television interview since his ex-wife's triple murder case ended in a mistrial.

Clancy told 60 minutes correspondent Ross Douthit he knew his ex-wife was struggling in the months before she's accused of killing their children.

"I think mental illness has this ability to be tragically deceptive, so I'm sure there are things that I didn't see," Clancy shared.

Clancy's youngest son, Callan, was alive for four days after the children's bodies were discovered in the family's basement in January of 2023.

"I got to hold him. I got to lay down next to him. And he died in my arms," Clancy remembered.

Weeks after the tragedy, Clancy realized he could no longer remain in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

"There was a day where I, really, without thinking, I drove by their school. And it was at the exact time that all of their friends were getting dropped off. And I was just, I couldn't be there anymore," Clancy explained.

When asked if he ever had suicidal thoughts, Clancy said, "Yeah. There was a time where I didn't think I would live to see my 35th birthday, and I was completely fine with it."

He moved to New York City that April, seeking anonymity. Soon after, his youngest son's would-be first birthday was upon him.

"I go to St. Patrick's Cathedral. I light a candle. And I say 'I love you buddy.' And I walk out on Fifth Avenue. And I start crying my eyes out. And nobody cared," Clancy spoke.

When asked if he was grateful for that, Clancy said, "I thought this is where I need to be. I can grieve."

Clancy also reacted to the online hate and conspiracy theories about him saying, "It's a deeply harmful to the legacy of my children, it is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health."

Clancy is about to become a father again, expecting a child with his new wife, Rachel Danis, a fertility doctor.

"I can't bring his kids back, but if i can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present…I guess that's all I can do," Danis said.

Clancy said he intends to tell the new baby about his siblings.

Both Clancy and his ex-wife have brought lawsuits against healthcare providers, alleging malpractice.

It's not yet known if Lindsay will face another trial, but a hearing is set for September 29.
