Harry and Meghan to return to the U.K.
LONDON (CBS, KYMA) - Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are heading back to the United Kingdom after moving to California following a very public rift with the royal family.
Headlines of a homecoming for Harry and Megan seemed out of the question a year ago.
"I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point," Harry said.
Clearly, the world has changed, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning to Great Britain.
"Maybe he's just truly British at the end of the day and he just misses home," said one London resident.
U.K. sources confirmed the former working royals plan to relocate in a matter of days, enrolling their two young children in British schools.
"Living in what we suspect is going to be the Cotswolds, that's Southern England in Gloucestershire where a lot of celebrities live," said Amanda Foreman, CBS News Royal Contributor.
Back in 2021, Harry revealed in a shocking interview to Oprah that his family's security in the U.K. and lack of support from the palace pushed him to uproot his family and move to the U.S.
Since then, time and more tension have rippled through his family.
His daughter Lilibet was born in 2021. A year later, his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died. In 2023, Harry released his explosive memoir "Spare," writing that his brother, Prince William, physically attacked him in an argument, an then, a year after that, his father, King Charles, revealed he had cancer.
"We do know their visit to see Charles over the summer, the first time that Archie and Lilibet had seen their grandfather in four years, was very successful and that they viewed their time there as very positive," said Erin Hill, Senior Royals Editor for People Magazine.
It's also understood the king and queen only learned of the news last Sunday and welcomed it. Harry and Meghan's return home could happen in a matter of days.
The BBC said Harry and Meghan plan to keep their home in California as they establish a new home base in Britain.
Their son, Prince Archie, is now seven, and Lilibet just turned five.
