Jury selection begins in Tupac murder trial

LAS VEGAS (CNN, KYMA) - Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, the only man ever charged in his killing is going to trial.

Jury selection began Monday in the case against Duane "Keffe D" Davis.

Prosecutors said Davis orchestrated the 1996 shooting after a fight involving Shakur's entourage and Davis' nephew.

They did not accuse him of pulling the trigger, but said he provided the gun used in the shooting.

Davis is charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Prosecutors are expected to rely in part on Davis' own public statements and memoir about the killing.

His defense says those claims were made for fame and money.

Davis has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is expected to last about a month.
